A Reno Medicare & insurance broker who works for you.

Reno and Sparks have more Medicare plans, more carriers, and more fine print than almost anywhere in Nevada. I cut through it — comparing your real options side by side so you keep the doctors you trust without overpaying.

Straight answers for the Truckee Meadows.

Reno is the most competitive Medicare market in Northern Nevada — which is good for you, because it means more choices, and hard for you, because the mailbox flood every fall is relentless. My job is to make that noise stop and turn it into a clear, side-by-side comparison.

The Truckee Meadows is served by three big systems — Renown Health, Saint Mary’s, and Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks — and not every Medicare Advantage plan includes all of them. If you see doctors across systems, that changes the math, and we’ll walk through it.

I meet clients all over the area — Midtown and downtown Reno, Somersett and Northwest, Spanish Springs and Sparks, or by video if that’s easier.

Medicare, locally

Medicare in Reno & Washoe County.

Reno’s big draw is choice. Several Medicare Advantage carriers compete here, including Senior Care Plus (the plan tied to Renown’s Hometown Health) and Prominence, alongside the national names. More competition can mean richer extra benefits — but only if the plan’s network includes your providers.

The Renown vs. Saint Mary’s question matters more in Reno than anywhere else in the region. Senior Care Plus is built around the Renown/Hometown Health network; if your specialists are at Saint Mary’s or Northern Nevada Medical Center, a different plan may fit better. We check before you commit, not after.

Prefer to keep every door open? A Medicare Supplement paired with a standalone Part D plan lets you see any Reno provider who takes Medicare, with predictable costs. We’ll compare that against Advantage plans in real dollars.

New to Reno? Retirees relocating from California and elsewhere are a big part of my week. If you moved here, that triggers a special window to switch to a Nevada plan — don’t assume your old plan travels.

Plan availability and provider networks change every year and by ZIP code. I don’t offer every plan in the area — we’ll review the ones that fit your doctors and budget, and you can always compare all options at Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE.

no call center, no script

Why work with a local independent broker.

It’s just me — Daniel. When you call, you reach the person who will actually sit down with you in Reno, compare your options in plain English, and be here next year when something changes.

Independent, not captive

I represent you, not a single carrier, so we compare A+ rated companies side by side and pick what actually fits.

$0 for my help

A review costs you nothing. As a broker I’m paid by the carrier you choose — your premium is the same whether you use me or not.

I teach first

You’ll leave understanding your coverage well enough to explain it to a friend — that’s the whole point.

Timing matters

Medicare dates worth putting on the calendar.

Medicare runs on a calendar, and a missed deadline can mean a late penalty or a year stuck with the wrong plan. Here are the windows every Reno and Washoe County resident should have on the fridge.

Turning 65 — your first window

Your Initial Enrollment Period runs seven months: the three months before your 65th-birthday month, that month, and the three after. Starting early keeps your coverage from lapsing and helps you avoid late penalties.

Fall Open Enrollment · Oct 15 – Dec 7

Every year you can compare and switch Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans. Whatever you change takes effect January 1 — so fall is the time to make sure last year’s plan still fits this year’s doctors and drugs.

Advantage Open Enrollment · Jan 1 – Mar 31

Already in a Medicare Advantage plan? You get one chance in this window to switch to a different Advantage plan or move back to Original Medicare.

Medigap open enrollment

The six months after you turn 65 and enroll in Part B are your one guaranteed-issue window for a Medicare Supplement — no health questions and no medical underwriting.

Moving to or around the Truckee Meadows? A move can open a Special Enrollment Period outside these dates. Before you choose a Medicare Advantage plan, make sure your doctors and preferred hospital — many Reno families use Renown Health or Saint Mary’s — are in-network, and that your medications are covered. Want a second, unbiased opinion? Nevada’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) offers free Medicare counseling, and my help is always $0.

The best plan isn’t the one I sell the most of. It’s the one you understand so well you never lose sleep over it again.

Good questions

Frequently asked.

Which Medicare plans work with Renown or Saint Mary’s in Reno?

It varies by plan and by year. Senior Care Plus is built around the Renown/Hometown Health network, while other Advantage plans and all Medicare Supplement plans handle the Reno hospital systems differently. Tell me which doctors and hospital you use and I’ll show you the plans that actually cover them.

I just moved to Reno. Do I need to change my Medicare plan?

Probably. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are regional, so a plan from another state or county usually won’t serve you well here. Moving triggers a Special Enrollment Period, and I’ll help you pick a Reno-area plan during it.

Do you cover Sparks and Spanish Springs too?

Yes — all of Washoe County and the greater Truckee Meadows. I regularly meet clients in Sparks, Spanish Springs, Sun Valley, and the Northwest, or by video anywhere.

Is your help really free?

Yes. I’m an independent broker paid by the carrier you choose, so a full comparison and enrollment costs you nothing and your premium doesn’t change. You just get local, unbiased help instead of a 1-800 number.
